Simon Bolam

Principal, E H Ranson & Co

Left school in 1961 and joined the Royal Insurance in Edinburgh.  In 1970 joined E H Ranson & Co, Insurance Brokers.  In 1971 became a partner and then owner in 1972 to the present time.  His firm operates from four offices in the Edinburgh area and specialises in personal and smaller commercial insurance business.   

A Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Broker.
 
1994/95 - President of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII)

1998/2000 – Chairman of the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA)

From 1998, until the repeal of the Insurance Brokers Registration Act in 2001, an elected member of the Insurance Brokers Registration Council. 

From its establishment in 2000 to its cessation in 2005, served on the Board of the General Insurance Standards Council and chaired its Smaller Practitioners Committee.

In December 2002 appointed by the Financial Services Authority to represent general insurance intermediation on its Smaller Businesses Practitioner Panel (SBPP).  From 1 June 2008 appointed by the FSA to serve as Chairman of the Panel.

Outside interests - Hillwalking and mountain biking in Scotland.
