Russell Collins
Head of Deloitte UK National Financial Service Practice
Russell is managing partner of Deloitte UK National Financial Services Practice and he is a member of Deloitte's Global Financial Services Management Board. He has specialised in financial services auditing, investigations and risk consulting advisory assignments for 25 years, including working with a variety of UK and international banking, securities, asset management, insurance companies and regulators. Prior to joining Deloitte in August 2002 Russell was head of Andersen's UK Financial Services Practice.
Having been seconded to the Bank of England from 1987 to 1989, Russell has carried out a wide range of work on behalf of the Bank and the Financial Services Authority. Russell was one of three partners who were appointed accountants to the inquiry by the Bank's Board of Banking Supervision into the collapse of Barings. Subsequently, Russell worked with the Bank and FSA in the development of risk based regulation (RATE, Arrow), and most recently on the Tiner project in insurance.
Russell has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales' Financial Services and Banking sub-committees and he also represented the ICAEW on the European Banks' Working Party.
Russell has also led governance, control and risk reviews at several major UK financial services institutions and has recently been working with them on their implementation of International Accounting Standards, internal audit and a variety of regulatory assignments.
Current and former external audit clients include Abbey, Salomon Brothers, Northern Trust, Bank One, Westdeutsche Landesbank, Electronic Broking Services, BBVA , BCI Intesa, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Export Credit Guarantee Department.
