Gordon Pell

Gordon Pell was appointed to the Board of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc in March 2000. His current role includes responsibility for Retail Banking, the Retail Direct Division and Wealth Management business, including Coutts & Co where he is the Chief Executive.
Educated at Wellington College , and after obtaining a first class degree from Southampton University , he joined Lloyds Bank as a graduate trainee. Over 28 years he progressed through a range of senior management appointments in the corporate, retail, strategic and merchant banking parts of the Group. He joined the Board of Lloyds in 1998 as Group Director of UK Retail Banking, after the Lloyds TSB merger.
Between January and March 2000 Gordon Pell was appointed to the Board of NatWest as Chief Executive Officer of UK Banking with direct responsibility for the Group's Retail and Corporate Bank. Following the acquisition of NatWest by Royal Bank of Scotland he joined the Board of the combined Group as Chief Executive, Retail Banking, covering both the Royal Bank and NatWest brands.
Since 1997 he has been a Director of Race for Opportunity , a Business in the Community campaign focusing on the need to develop the role of Britain 's ethnic minority communities in business. He is a Fellow of both the CIOB and CIOB Scotland and also a member of the National Employment Panel.
