Surveys

The Practitioner Panel regularly undertakes a Survey of Regulated Firms to build up a continuous picture of how the industry’s view of the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and its regulatory framework is developing.

Its latest survey was published in December 2008. It also reserves the right to engage in other research projects, such as the recent Regulatory Cost Survey, conducted jointly with the FSA.

Practitioner Panel Surveys of Regulated Firms

The Surveys of Regulated Firms provide an important signal to the Financial Services Authority (FSA) on the evolving reaction of the financial services industry to its regulatory policies and how they work in practice. They are conducted by means of preparatory qualitative interviews, followed by a questionnaire to a large cross-section of all regulated firms, providing robust and authoritative feedback from the regulated community on the FSA's performance.

Cost of Regulation Survey

One of the key issues arising from the Practitioner Panel's previous 2004 Survey was a consensus among regulated firms that the costs and burden of compliance were generally seen as excessive. As a direct result of these findings, in 2005 the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and the Practitioner Panel jointly commissioned and governed a comprehensive survey into the cost of regulation.
